MOTION:

I move to direct staff to provide staff support and City resources to host a south Salem Townhall for wards 2, 3, 4, and 7.

DISCUSSION:

Council adopted a motion to delay consideration of this motion until the August 14, 2023 City Council Meeting.

The councilors from the four south Salem wards; Gwyn (Ward 4), Nishioka (Ward 2), Nordyke (Ward 7) and Phillips (Ward 3) have met to plan the first-ever south Salem Townhall. The Townhall is tentatively set for Thursday, September 21st, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Loucks Auditorium at the Salem Public Library. The anticipated townhall meeting agenda items include; Communicating with the City; Homelessness; Affordable Housing and; Transportation. A tentative agenda is attached to this motion (Attachment 1).

While this townhall will be led by the four south Salem councilors, we anticipate needing City staff support and City resources, including;

                     Stream Townhall on YouTube

                     PowerPoint presentation for each topic and designated staff member to assist with information

                     Contact information for councilors and city staff for all topics

                     Large pieces of paper strategically placed around the auditorium for people to ask questions that were not addressed during the meeting and for staff to follow-up on afterwards (QR code in the alternative to submit questions via web form or other methodology, subject to city staff discretion)
