body

SUMMARY:

The proposed resolution will approve the disposition and development of land located at 3112-3120 Broadway, Ave, NE, Salem, Oregon, formerly the site of a SHA public housing project, for affordable housing, to be known as Sequoia Crossings.

FACTS AND FINDINGS:

The future of federal funding for publicly owned housing is uncertain with decreasing support the most likely outcome. Affordable housing in Salem has been a desired goal for the past several years. The Sequoia Crossings project site, located at 3120 Broadway Street NE, Salem, Oregon 97303, is ideally situated for affordable housing with a grocery store, bank, and bus line all within walking distance. In addition, several public services offices are located nearby.

The Sequoia Crossings project will provide affordable housing and support to our most vulnerable and chronically homeless neighbors in Marion and Polk counties. The project will consist of approximately 77 units and will serve single adults, couples, and small families with a mix of studio, one bedroom, and two-bedroom apartment homes.

BACKGROUND:

In June 2009 the Commission authorized the submission a Section 18 demolition/disposition application to demolish Orchard Village, (3112-3120 Broadway Ave NE) a 30-unit Public Housing Project, and to hold the land for future development.
