MOTION:
I move that the City implement 8CANTWAIT guidelines for Salem police.
DISCUSSION:
#8CANTWAIT is a campaign to bring immediate change to police departments. The premise of #8CANTWAIT at Campaign Zero is to hold police officers accountable to the community that they serve. Doing so will begin rebuilding the trust that has been lost over time and to hold our police officers/department accountable for the actions of the officers.
#8CANTWAIT includes the city adopting eight polices meant to reduce killings and harm by police while saving lives. Adopting all 8 policies would enable the city to report to the community what it is and is not doing.
