MOTION:
I move that City Council direct staff to initiate a speed limit review for 17th Street, from Mission Street SE to Silverton Road NE; and 45th Street NE from Center Street NE to Sunnyview Road NE.
DISCUSSION:
Council has recently heard a number of complaints from residents about speeding and inattentive drivers throughout the community. Council is also concerned and saddened by the numerous pedestrian fatalities in the community. It is well understood that distracted driving combined with speed is a lethal combination.
Oregon law requires that municipalities submit data to the Oregon Department of Transportation to consider reducing the speed limit of a roadway. This action will allow us to engage ODOT on two City arterials that experience both heavy pedestrian traffic and speeding.
