SUMMARY:

Altering the start time for city council meetings requires city council action. Altering the start time for the January 28 meeting will ensure adequate time for Planning Commission applicant interviews. City Council’s Board and Commission Appointments Committee recommends that three applicants be considered for interviews for one vacancy on the Planning Commission. The vote on filling the vacancy typically occurs via ballot on the same evening as the interviews during the regular Council meeting.

FACTS AND FINDINGS:

Chapter 6 of the Salem Revised Code describes the composition, terms of office, and overall organization of the Planning Commission. Commissioners’ terms are four years, and no member shall serve more than two successive terms. As of December 31, 2018, one member concluded two full terms in office, leaving one vacancy on the commission.
