SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND:
The City Council’s Board and Commission Appointments Committee convened on September 27, 2018, to review applications as well as consider requests for reappointment to the following Boards and Commissions.
Citizen Budget Committee
The State of Oregon requires that all local governments establish a budget committee made up of citizen members and elected officials. The purpose of the budget committee is to promote transparency, efficiency and economy in the expenditure of public funds.
Salem Cultural and Tourism Promotion Advisory Board
This board advises the City Council on matters pertaining to the use of the transient occupancy tax, cultural activities and convention/tourism business in Salem.
Salem Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
The Salem Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommends to and advises City Council on the acquisition, development, and maintenance of park land and recreational facilities.
Salem Public Art Commission
The Salem Public Art Commission is charged with overseeing the City’s public art collection and recommending the Public Art Fund annual budget to City Council. The Commission’s primary duties include acquisition, maintenance, cataloguing and deaccessioning art within the City’s collection.
Salem Urban Development, Community Services and Housing Commission
SRC Chapter 20G authorizes the City Council to make appointments to the Salem Urban Development Community Services and Housing Commission.
While these appointments and reappointments are important to the ongoing viability of the City’s boards and commissions, volunteer positions are almost always available. Appoint Virginia Barker as the Ward 5 representative to a term #1 expiring on June 30, 2021.
Salem Cultural and Tourism Promotion Advisory Board
Appoint Rita Siong to a partial term expiring on June 30, 2020.
Appoint Gaelen McAllister to a term #1 expiring on June 30, 2021.
Salem Parks & Recreation Advisory Board
Appoint Micki Varney to a partial term expiring on December 31, 2019.
Appoint Diana Dickey to a partial term expiring on December 31, 2020.
Salem Public Art Commission
Reappoint Rachel Bucci to a term #1 expiring on October 1, 2021.
Reappoint Christine D’Arcy to a term #2 expiring on October 1, 2021.
Reappoint Eileen Cotter-Howell to a term #2 expiring on October 1, 2021.
Salem Urban Development, Community Services and Housing Commission
Appoint Frank Hostler to a term #1 expiring on June 30, 2021.
