SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND:

The City Council and the SEDCOR Board of Directors have held annual work sessions in recent years to review progress on economic development activities and look ahead to the coming year. The last joint economic development work session was held on March 23, 2015. Several 2015-2017 City Council goals relate to economic development, including to “create the environment and opportunity for smaller traded sector businesses and local companies to retain and expand in Salem and foster strategic partnerships to grow jobs and income, attract visitors, and conduct strategic recruitment of traded sector employers”.

City staff provide quarterly updates to the City Council on economic activities, and SEDCOR presents its annual plan each fall. The last quarterly report presented to the City Council occurred on July 25, 2015.

FACTS AND FINDINGS:

The November 21, 2015, work session will include a presentation by SEDCOR and City staff about our roles, current and planned activities, as well as progress and outcomes with business retention and recruitment.

                     Economic Development Manager
