SUMMARY:
The Salem Planning Commission is established in SRC Chapter 6 and provides that the Commission shall consist of nine members to be appointed by the City Council, not more than one of whom shall be a nonresident of the City of Salem.
The Salem Planning Commission acts as an advisory commission to the City Council with a broad scope of concern in promoting the growth and orderly development of the City of Salem. In addition, the Commission reviews and issues decisions regarding a number of quasi-judicial land use applications.
FACTS AND FINDINGS:
There are three full-term vacancies for four-year terms expiring on December 31, 2028. The Council Board and Commission Appointments Committee reviewed applications and recommended the following applicants for consideration: Benjamin Fryback, Joaquin Lara Midkiff, and Marissa Theve.
BACKGROUND:
The Council Board and Commission Appointments Committee reviewed and considered applications on July 16, 2024, for three vacancies. Following review, the Committee recommended the three applicants be interviewed by the City Council on August 12.
Due to several Councilors being absent on August 12, the decision was made to postpone the interviews until September 16.
