The Council Board & Commission Appointments Committee convened on Monday, October 6, 2025, and reviewed applications for positions on the Community Police Review Board (CBRB). The Committee also discussed new criteria for background checks for those wishing to serve.

FACTS AND FINDINGS:

 

At the October 6 meeting, the Council Board & Commission Appointments Committee recommended the following appointments to the Community Police Review Board:

 

                     Jeffery Jorgenson, appointed as a regular member with a term expiration of 1/1/27

                     Kelly Raths, currently an alternate member, appointed into a regular member position, with a term expiration of 1/1/27 (no application attached as it already came before Council when she was appointed alternate)

                     George McLean, appointed as an alternate member with a term expiration of 1/1/27

                     Ashley Kuenzi, appointed as an alternate member with a term expiration of 1/1/26

 

BACKGROUND:

 

The Community Police Review Board is comprised of seven members and two alternates. When appointing new members, Council shall consider: (1) civic participation within the community; (2) residency within the City of Salem; (3) criminal history; (4) commitment to the goals of the Board; (5) demonstrated life experiences or training in cultural or ethnic diversity; and (6) any experience the individual has had with police officers in general, and the Salem Police Department in particular. (Authority: SRC Chapter 201.)
