FACTS AND FINDINGS:

The 2024 Annual Report emphasizes how the strategic philosophies have been put into practice. These well-established guiding principles have been crucial in enabling the Center to adapt and respond to the evolving needs of the community. The leadership at Center 50+ remains committed to the principles outlined in the Salem Senior Center Strategic Operations Plan, further reinforced by the Age Friendly Salem Initiative, which has been in effect since 2018.

In response to the findings of the Age Friendly Assessment conducted in 2018, the Center 50+ Advisory Commission has developed and is implementing an action plan (see Attachment 2). While some initiatives were paused during the pandemic, others were prioritized to address issues of isolation and loneliness among seniors. The experiences and lessons learned over the past few years have laid a solid foundation for the Center's ongoing work. Center 50+ embodies an upstream healthcare model, focusing on proactive community building and care, supported by collaborative partnerships, a dedicated volunteer workforce, and an engaged patronage.

The Center 50+ Advisory Commission looks forward to presenting the highlights of its 2024 Annual Report to the City Council. This presentation will provide insights into the ongoing efforts and successes of the Center in serving the senior population and enhancing community well-being.

BACKGROUND:

The Senior Center Advisory Commission was established in 1994 to serve as an advisory body to the City Council on matters related to the Senior Center, addressing the concerns of the senior population (individuals aged fifty and older). In 2016, the Commission was renamed the Center 50+ Advisory Commission to reflect the facility's name change.

Since its inception in 1976, Center 50+ has been dedicated to supporting older adults and serving as a vital community resource. The Center is recognized as a leader in promoting accessible resources for the community, aligning with the City Council's goal of creating a Welcoming and Livable Community.
