FACTS AND FINDINGS:
The Planning Commission, which consists of nine members appointed by the City Council, acts as an advisory commission to the City Council concerning growth and orderly development of the city.
Salem Revised Code Chapter 6 states that the Planning Commission shall make and file a report with the City Council of the activities of the preceding year. The Planning Commission’s 2023 Annual report is attached (Attachment 1).
Planning for our future is one of Council’s four key priority areas. The Planning Commission is a key part of helping Council advance this goal.
BACKGROUND:
The Planning Commission reviews quasi-judicial land use applications, legislative code amendments, serves as the City’s Citizen Involvement committee for land use and participates on various long-term planning efforts.
